I’m having issues with my 440 with a clutch fan touching my radiator. First her are a few facts. I’m already using a Hayden 2947 clutch fan which is the shortest clutch fans available. I can’t get the factory 3 core radiator in without the clutch fan scraping the radiator. Both the tank and the fins hit. I can not install the clutch fan after the radiator is installed because you can’t get the clutch over the water pump shaft. My future plan is to buy a new Glenray radiator for the car but I’m not about to install one with this clearance issue. I have friends with a ‘64 Fury and a ‘65 Coronet that are running similar setups and their motors set 3/8” farther back than mine and all three cars of our cars are using the factory correct K-frames, transmission mounts and motor mounts. I’ve looked at everything and there’s nothing that looks out of place that could cause this.

I started with the Mopar 5 blade clutch fan kit and found it in my 64 Plymouth. My radiator has four rows of core. I ended up using Hayden 2765 (Jaguar) clutch which left me with 1/2" clearance. This set up has been on the my engine (Hemi) for over 10 yrs.

The engines in these cars all set very close. If you look closely at the core support, you will see it is notched at the top. The factory radiator is soldered to the brackets with them at a slight angle. It sets the radiator further ahead slightly on the drivers side for more clearance. These cars never had clutch fans from the factory. Look close at the drivers side of the core support. Near the radiator mounting bolt. That is the notch.

Thanks, I’ll check with Hayden tomorrow but I’m still looking to find out why my engine sets so far forward.

Post some pictures and maybe someone can see something? Also take pics of the radiator and its mounting.

Factory motor mount brackets or aftermarket? Ever involved in a front end collision or rust repair with engine pans and rad support?
