69 Coronet 440 project

Not much getting done to the Coronet because of what happened 47 years ago today. Yours truly was born. I've been baking my cake and getting the grill fired up for a barbecue. Only hotdogs and hamburgers but it's still a good time.

John, that is no excuse true mopar men work thru their weddings and divorces, and sometimes thru their own funerals, just being crazy today, great story about your car, and happy birthday to you.

True enough, out to work on the Coronet. I need to work off some of this cake anyways. :)

Well at least it is in good hands now.

This is very true and she looks a lot different now from when I brought her home. One piece at a time right!

Yeap, doing the same only it's my daughters birthday, good excuse to eat like a horse and do nothing for once.

I've been working on this tail light panel for a little while now. I'm about half done with it and I'm learning a lot. I definitely like doing this, it brings out my creative side. I have 2 full quarters for an 80's Ramcharger that I used to own. I'm using them to make the patch panels that I need. The cutting, hammering, shaping, welding, and grinding is relaxing and challenging at the same time. I find that it's easier to make patches that follow the body lines on the car. I'm able to hide flaws this way. I'm not sure if this is the way the pro's do it but it's the way I'm doing it.

And the next patch to go in. I'm finding that when I make my paper templates for the left side I just flip them over to make the right side.

Now there's a movie quote!!! I'm going to have to pop that movie in and watch it now. The nekkid girl on the dirtbike gets me every time.

Nice!!! Shaping up real nice '61..... Sure been bit by the resto bug! No losing that disease. Before you know it, you'll be at a car show looking at all the beat up rusty rides, imagining how or what you would fix vs. looking at the completed cars.

That's funny because I've already been doing that. I guess I have been bitten. LOL

Restoration Bug Bite

Yep. You've been bitten by the bug. To my knowledge, there is no known antidote.....

Your car is coming along nicely. Keep up the great work and thanks for posting your progress.

Yep, definitely bitten by the restoration bug. Not wanting an antidote is one of the first signs................. LOL

It is followed by the urge to buy lots of parts, and the inability to sleep because of thinking about your car (or spending late evenings working on it).

Possible side effects include bloody knuckles, greasy hands, dirty face and clothing, forgetting where you set certain tools down at (only to find them the next day when you don't need them anymore), outbreaks of occasional foul language, consumption of adult beverages, :eek:ccasion14:

listening to your favorite music while working on your project, and an incurable grin when you step on the gas pedal of your latest project when it's finally done..........

Why would anyone want a cure for that ?????

Not me !!!!! No Way, Never !!!!!

X2 on the belated birthday Budnicks ........

BB61, nice work on the tail panel. What cha going to do with the wheel arch from your patch panel from the ramcharger? I could use them for my p/u if you're not going to use them.

I already cut into one of the wheel arches Roger. The other one is still in great shape and is yours if you need it. Don't suppose your truck ever drives into the Detroit Area? That would make things easier. Other than that just pay to have it shipped. How much do you need on each side of the arch?

Don't get up to Detroit as much as I used to. It's mainly the top of the arch that's rusted. I'll take whatever you don't need for your car. Don't want to take anything away from your project getting fixed. Just let me know what I owe you for shpg. THANKS.

Broken Jig

I am so done for the day! I went out to the garage on Monday afternoon to work on the Coronet. I lean on the back of the car to grab a hammer off of the package tray and the two back wheels on the jig fall off. When I bought the frame jig, Ryan told me the wheels needed to be replaced, so I knew they were bad. On Tuesday I drag the car out of the garage. I make a brace out of two 2x8's bolted together and a 2x10 screwed to the 2x8's. I put this under the car at the back of the door opening. With 2 jackstands and a floor jack I'm able to lift the car off the jig. The original wheels were 4 inch wheels rated at 330lbs each. I replaced them with 8 inch wheels rated at 450lbs each. Needless to say, the new wheels didn't bolt up to the old bolt holes so I welded and braced in new metal and bolted the new wheels to the jig. I get the jig back under the Coronet tonight just as it starts to rain. I get the car in the garage, shut the door, come inside and take a really needed shower. I'm now sitting in my favorite chair and every muscle in my body is cramping up. I figure I'll clean up the mess tomorrow. No pictures because I just wanted to get this done but it does roll really nice now and the two wheels under the front of the door opening are non steering wheels, so pushing the car around is now a one man job.

Maybe now I can get back to finishing the tail light panel. It's so close to being done but I think I'm at the hardest part. lots of small bends. Stay tuned, same bat time same bat channel!! :icon_batman: :)

john, that s nothing that some aleve, and good ol fashion muscle rub would not cure, and besides you are a young man, that work should not bother a young man like you, just kidding,i have been in the same aches and pain as you after a long day of working on my old car, keep up the good work,i hope job search is going good
