71 GTX Build

That's good news. Please keep us posted !!!!!!!!!!

Well talked to the Body Shop and now it seems the budget to get the roof swapped is beyond what I am willing to spend. We can close this thread down as I am selling both the 71 GTX and 71 Road Runner donor cars. It sucks, but I let my ego get the best of me months ago when a few members warned me I would get to this point and to get out of them before I get demoralized.

I went through this with mine at year #4. sorry to hear it. I had a TON of money in, and basically couldn't stop spending because losing my *** hurt way more than waiting, saving, and spending more time and money.

Sorry to hear this but I totally understand your situation.

I just sold off all of my 71-72 B body cars. My reasoning was that I'm getting older and I had way too many projects to do.

It is much easier with only one or two cars to work on now.

Plus I can say that they went to good homes and have a much better chance of getting finished now. It just kills me when I see a Mopar sitting in a field for years slowly rusting away, knowing it will never be fixed. By me getting rid of mine when I did, I feel I gave them "New" lease on life.

Hopefully you can feel the same way.

Appreciate the comments. I may just cover it up in my shop and just start saving up. I put it on eBay and it's not really getting much traction. I fell victim to my own ego and thought this would go easier. Lesson learned. I am gearing up for hunting season here and will probably just take some time away from it and regroup. I think the GTX has the potential to be a real nice car and I should probably stop worshipping at the church of now.

I am just seeing this for the first time. A 2 tag TX9 GTX is an awesome and rare find. I am not in your situation, and never have been, but Im impressed with the work you have in it so far. I think you should keep it and just take your time, making a long term project out of it, working when you can. As long as you have the space and the time, and dont NEED to sell it.
By the way, why are you using a RR for a parts car? If the RR is sellable I would sell that and pick up a satellite for a donor.
Just curious.
Like you I paid too much for mine, but it was the exact car I was looking for. It was in good condition already; a nice driver, and it fit my dreams real well, but I still have hundreds of hours in it (that I have enjoyed), and lots of $..... but nothing like yours.
I say take your time and go for it. A few years from now when its finished you will have an achievement that you will be mighty proud of, and who cares what it might be worth. It will be your baby.

Hi, the road runner has no title, fender tag and according to the folks at the DMV in CA where the car was from, I would have to bring it back to CA and have them inspect the car and verify the VIN to get the original title. I bought it for all the body parts and the roof for the GTX. If it weren't for the title issues, I would have probably built it because other than the lower qp on the passenger side, and some body panels that need straightening, the car is rock solid and rust free.

I pulled the car from eBay and going to cover it up for now and just keep saving.

Good for you !!!!!!! You can always come back to it later when the timing is better. Try to keep it out of the elements. Even though my 73 Challenger was stored inside for quite a few years, I still found more rust on it than what it had when I stored it.

Just a bit of good news. The GTX is out getting blasted, epoxy primed and the roof swap/repairs being handled. I should have some pics in a few weeks of the progress. I know I will forever be upside down in this car, but in the long run it will be worth it.

Just read through your whole thread Craig. I am glad that you have decide to carry on with building your car. She is a special one and it would be a shame to not get the enjoyment out of it. Take your time and it will be finished when its finished.

Been awhile since posting - GTX is coming along at the shop. The GTX was media blasted and most of the metal repairs are done. The roof replacement is mostly complete, but there is still quite a bit of work to do to smooth out the donor skin. Here are a few pics.

The metal repair should be complete in the next couple weeks and then prepping the body for paint will begin.

Engine build has started. Block has been cleaned and bored. Just bought new 84cc Eddy Performer heads that will get ported as well. Almost went for the new Trickflow heads but decided they may be a bit much for now. image.jpeg

AWESOME!! CONGRATS! I had mine out this weekend. I have a big thing and a couple little things to fix.

Great progress!
Ive been sidelined the last few months with a heart attack and triple bypass, but I see youve been busy.
That is a special car.

Toomyg, I think just to have you still with us that we all understand. As we all love all things Mopars, family and health takes first priorities. Glad you're still here.

Crahill-Get back to work...lol

Replaced the torque boxes in the front with stiffer versions from US Car Tool. The fitment is not the greatest and had to beat them into submission. Still debating on getting the subframe connectors. Also ordered 8 gallons of the Lizard Skin sound and thermal insulation for the inside and trunk. Going with Raptor liner for underneath and the wheel wells. Almost done assembling my sandblasting cabinet and then I can start cleaning up all the suspension pieces and K-member for powder coating. About 2 months away from paint hopefully.

It only took 1 gallon each on my 69. Make sure you follow directions on coat thickness & drying time.
