71 GTX Build

Also running a dehumidifier will help when spraying it.

I'm so glad to see that you are sticking with this GTX! I almost won it 2.5 years ago, when it was for sale in TX. It was 100% complete and still had the original louvers on the rear window. It sold for $5,600, and went to Illinois and ended up at a restoration shop where the louvers "disappeared"! The louvers were the reason I wanted the car The owner claimed an employee broke them and tossed them in the trash, yeah right... I asked the guy to offer the owner $3k for them and that's when the employee broke them story came about.

I just went down the road you're traveling now, but I had an easier start (SoCal car). I'll keep checking on this thread. If you have any questions when it comes time to reassemble, feel free to pm me.

Btw- the fact that your GTX is coded J68 for the rear window louvers, makes it one of only 30 made! I have the VINs for 8 others including yours and mine so far.

Thanks so much for the comments. I wavered on keeping this car after finding out how bad the roof and underlying structure was rusted. The restoration shop definitely withheld that information when I was getting all the details. When it's all complete, I will have a small fortune in this car for sure.

Car is looking good. Yes, enthusiasm goes a long way. I'm a little farther on mine as you are but not much. Getting paint on it and starting to "reborn", putting things on my car and yours as well gets you motivated. Keep the posts coming!

K Member is back from the powder coated and rear housing is being completed this week. I decided to go with the Mopar Super Stock spring Setup and waiting for those parts to arrive. The doors, fenders, deck lid, and hood are going to get sprayed next.

Man that is sick! I love that color on it. I am glad you stayed with it. I will be getting to go through this next year so I am living through you right now. haha

The color will get me booted out of the mopar purist club. It is a GM color they use on newer model Cadillacs .

Great job, restoring a piece of an American automotive icon.

You know, every person who gets involved in these sorts of things goes through a stage of depression, discovery that things are worse than you thought and they start second guessing their decision about an individual project. The job seems so overwhelming, the investment seems so ridiculous, the task sees no end in sight. But when the project is finished, In the end you know the final results justifies what you have put into it!

Love the color! Don't worry about what other people might think, Do it your way!

When people look at your car, I seriously doubt that they will think or say, "man I can't believe you painted your car a gm color!" Are you going to go with strobes amd if so what color?

I'm feeling this right now, Steve. Seems like I try to go forward yet, end up taking a step or two back. Wondering "Will I ever get this car running again"? My car has been in my family for over 30 years and it's getting overwhelming at times. I just have to step away from it, have a beer, do something else then get back at it.
