And so it begins..... my new garage

Good progress, I'm like you, I don't like heights. When you have something solid to hold onto its not so bad. The worst thing about Saturday was the wind. They're saying next chance of rain is Wednesday.

This thread will be full of questions as I go. I've built homes, garages, etc but am putting emphasis on insulation and sealing it up tight so might be looking for ideas. I'll stick frame it with 2X6s, trusses on 24" centers but instead of plywood I'll be siding it in metal over perlings. Tin over perlings usually means drafts so that's one area I need to address, I'll put up faced R19 but to cut down on drafts wonder if house wrap will do or if foam board under the tin would be better? Also the foundation, will it be beneficial to put foam or just a barrier under the pad and does the vertical footer wall need insulated as well to keep cold out of the floor. One thing to keep in mind is this will be a low budget build so keeping cost minimal is important.
Have you thought about spray foam insulation ? It really seals tight. I must admit I have no idea what it cost. You're building that awesome garage, and that's your idea of a budget ? Just kidding man, it's gonna me greats!!

I would really love to do spray foam insulate it but it's very costly, at least around here. A brother in law had his house spray foamed, very nice option especially when it comes to sealing it up.

I'm a man of limited funds so there's going to be a lot of trade offs.... just trying to get the best bang for the buck. Wish I could go all out using all of the advice that's been given by members but the funds won't allow.:(

I'm taking you guys advice and insulating under the roof, I've been looking around and found what I'm using. Lowes sells this stuff in 4ft X 50 ft packs, it just unfolds and is fairly rigid so screws won't compress it paper thin like bubble wrap and it won't sag between purlins. I have my purlins laid out on 24" centers so installation should be a breeze, I'll get the tape and tape the seams to. Thanks for the advice... Goon and Larry are going both be here for the weekend and I already have a 30ft lift rented so hopefully by Monday I'll be posting a picture of a sided and roofed garage???? Whether it gets done or not I'm sure it'll
be a blast trying!

Woohoooo I've got a roof!!!!!!!!

Larry and Goon both dropped in for the weekend and pitched in some help to move the ball foward along with my brother and brother in law which I greatly appreciate.
These are 2 guys I met on FBBO that I really enjoy hanging out with eh. Hoping next time we meet up I'm not putting them to work rather kicking back and relaxing, regardless 2 of the coolest guys you'll ever meet.

I had my hopes set higher but there was a lot of unfinished work left to be finished due to me not having time to get to it so it wasn't from lack of effort by any means. We got it wrapped in house wrap, the roof covered in vapor barrier (I was going to use foam but my brother in law had a ton of leftover foil wrap) and then a roof and about a 1/4 of the siding. I hate heights!!!!!!! Damn garage feels like a sky scraper..... my knees are still shaking from roofing it and I was never so happy to be on the ground again. Felt like a drunk but the only way I can get work done at heights is with a little help lol.

There's more done than in the pic but there's the roof.

Larry also brought his puppy..... yeah right!!! More like a Shetlon Pony! Holy cow is Titus big, if he even looks up he's licking my face he's so tall but quite the good pooch.

Here's the real life saver, without this rental I can garrantee you I WOULD NOT do half of what I did.... I want one!!! Worked out great, my Can Am with it's 4 wheel drive and short wheelbase made positioning a snap and it being electric meant we could always here our music but 30ft is still 30ft!!

No one else was jumping into the lift . . . so I took that as not interested . . . so I jumped in it . . . HAD to get the job done . . . and we did . . . ( sorry I had to split . . . really )

Have you walked the 2X6 from the rock to the upstairs yet ? ( smile )
Ask Goon . . . Yes I did ( you should have seen his face as I walked it - priceless )

Yup Larry made the walk across and he's not a small dude. Dev's brother did it too.... I sure as hell wasn't

I'm not the handiest guy around so I was good for fetching things, getting wood cut and a few other odds and ends but I can tell you these 4 guys went to town and I had a blast being in their company and learning as much as I could take in

Also scored a delicious Thanksgiving dinner (Canada thanksgiving is October so turkey and ham in November was an extra treat for me) and some playtime on the Can Am out on my own and once with Dev driving on his own track and as a former motocross guy he takes you for a RIDE!!!

Thanks again for having me and glad I could be of whatever help I could...... eh!

Anytime.... eh!

After my visit with Goon in Canada I started throwing the "eh" in while talking to my daughter..... she rolls her eyes and gets irritated so Goon and I gave her an earful of "eh's" this weekend. If you were wondering why the "eh" now you know, gotta have fun with the kids.

Another growling weekend of siding and it's still not done....... It's reached the point of no longer being fun lol.

Saturday was honestly one of the best days yet on the garage, my only help was my dad and I really enjoyed hanging out with him all day. We punched in Motown on Pandora and listened to The Supremes, Temptations, Chuck Berry, Chubby Checker, etc all day and knocked out the whole rear wall (32WX27T). He's still awesome help and I enjoyed listening to him singing all say haha.

Today my brother in law was out again, we sided the whole lower wall (the tallest and longest) and put all the corners on. I've now got half of the front to finish and a little under half in the back so a little time here and there and it will be done. Waiting on supplies now, siding supplier shorted me 6 panels or the front would have gotten done and it's up there but at least it's solid level ground to work off of. I did have a complete retard moment today........ While siding the wall I had 2 screws in a row miss a purlin, we take care to lay them out so they're all really straight so I figured must have been a crack, knot hole???? I walk upstairs later and look over at 2 screws sticking threw the wall where the window was supposed to be......... we forgot to put the window in:BangHead:. It's new construction so I'm hoping to be able to pull a bunch of screws and gain enough space to squeeze it in from inside??? Pics coming but it was to dark by the time we finished again.

Wish I was closer man.
Just like Larry and Goon, if we were closer I'd likely get in trouble haha. Bunch of Mopar guys living close to each other means speeding tickets and to much time in the garage!

And all 3 of us would have awesome garages - and take turns helping eachother out . . .

The tickets I can do without !
