And so it begins..... my new garage

Awesome. Always good to have help and get some quality time in.
It's welcome for sure seeing how he's a bit more of a momma's boy and tends to stick with her, might be the beginning of something?

Just put the order in for 15 yards this weekend and 15 tons of gravel today. Need to decide how much rebar to put in, 2 ft grid, 3 ft, grid, 4ft??? My current garage has no rebar at all and the floor has held up great for 20 years.

Here's a couple products I'm looking at to guarantee no water leaks. I'm not a fan of painting a wall with tar or anything else, crack in the block equals a crack in the coating so I like the self adhesive membranes myself. I really, really like the dimpled roll on plastic sheets, it physically maintains a void on the wall giving water a direct path to the footer drains...... that's money well spent in my book!

This makes me happy...... go to a previous pic when I started and count the skids of block and now just 2:thumbsup:. Feeling pretty good about things now.

Here's my learning booboo's, first 2 rows have voids that will get filled with concrete. I finally got the joints right.

What should I do for floor drains? I've got several in my current shop and hate them, always getting creeper tires stuck, floor jacks breaking the covers, dropping bolts in them, etc. I keep a sqenueegee around and thought one in the center should do fine with a slight slope?

I put two in mine and the concrete finishers did a horrible job on them. Wished I would have gone without any.

I'm thinking I'll likely use the lift to wash the bottom of the car so I definitely want something. I'll set mine up and be there to make sure it's right. Sorry to hear, aggrevating when you know you could have done it right yourself.

My shop is 32' X 36'. I put one drain in center. I have a 1" slope from walls to drain. It is not noticeable and you still need a squeegee to get to water off the floor. I do all of my washing and most of my wrenching in the center stall. My drain has a 1" thick plastic grate and I have never had an issue with a floor jack breaking it or the creeper getting caught. If you drop a 1/4" nut within 8' of the drain you will know where it went though.
Good luck with your shop. I'm sure it will be great. You may as well know that within 2 years, you will wish it was bigger and you should have done some things different. It is standard procedure. Here are a couple pics.

Holmes on Homes uses that stuff all the time.

That's probably where I saw it, used to watch that a lot. I did use the membrane on my house though, good stuff. Looks like lowes can order it in.

I sloped my garage floor away from the doors and used a track drain that is about 3in wide and width of the space
creeper rolls over fine and you can drive over but have not tried to jack on it as it is plastic

I just googled and used " trench drain "

Hope you get your floor poured this weekend, don't see any rain in the forecast until next week.

What an awesome day! If you remember earlier in the thread I gave a coworker my Dakota and in return he'd do the concrete, been stressing over how good he was.... not anymore. They (him, his brother and nephew) showed up 1/2 hr early and immediately started ripping some of my forms down, adjusting grade pins, setting chalk lines and moving things around which told me they knew exactly what they wanted. I love watching pros work, looked easy... but I know better. The floor turned out awesome, if I kick off on the creeper now I'll likely fly under the car and bash my head on the wall it's so smooth!

Finished the day off shooting guns, blowing up tanerite and some UTV trashing which ended in rolling it haha... roll bars work!.

I'll get a pic of the final product tomorrow, that pic is the first pass of trialing.

Looking really good now...there's a certain level of satisfaction in seeing a concrete floor go down nice like that....congrats.

Here's a few pics.

This was a rough weekend, stayed up untill 4:30 in the morning leveling gravel, installing the drain, conduit, water line, vapor barrier and rebar then woke up at 7:30 to start pouring...
Ended up just pouring the whole floor 5 inches thick with 1/2 rebar so it should be no problem supporting the lift, I'll just use epoxy to set the anchors and call it done. As you can see the post survived, thought on it long and hard, just to much weight for a beam spanning 32 ft that also has to support another beam.. I know I'll hate it but whataya gonna do?
