Dumb stuff you've seen with cars....

My son came in one day and said that he couldnt figure out how to hook up the throttle linkage on the carb he just put on his chevy truck so i went and looked and said you dumba.. he had it on backwards .I worked at a mack dealer once and a old mack dump truck came in for a injector leaking when i got in it it was a dual stick well the one shifter was on backwards and it was where the missing passenger seat was btw this shiter had on it hi low rev and neautral . fixed the fuel inj and as im walking around the truck i notice a big crack running along the frame where the rear susp tower is mounted about 20 in long i look onthe other side of the truck has the same crack but filled in with body filler i told my boss i should call the dot on him but he didnt want me too ,

Yeah, that guy hates my car that's for sure. High back buckets-check, high impact paint-check, mustang wheels (boss 427)-check, Coronet stripe-check. I feel proud, I did everything wrong and my car will still look better then it did. Like you "I DON'T CARE".

Just wait till I put the big superbird Plymouth script on the rear quarters, the haters will really be out :)

when i first bought my charger, i just could not figure out why my fron suspension was squeaking, looking around for weeks, then the time came when i put the custom k member in and i was pulling the UCA's out i noticed the previous owner had about 10 washers each side of the uca's instead of the spacers, damn dodgy.

I'm calling Bull-Crap on this one!
No way this happened. I can see them putting the wrong trim or decals on.
I'm not calling BS on this....even tho I've never seen it myself, I have a friend that used to work on the lines in Datroit. His whole family worked for Chrysler at one time or another and these people have some stories lol. Also, another buddy of mine had a nice 66 289 Mustang that got rear ended and totaled it out so he found a 65 with a nice body but had a very worn out 6. Now 6 banger Mustangs came with 4 lug wheels, light duty suspension and dinky rear end but this one had the full V8 running gear under it complete with the 8" rear axle so doing the V8 swap was easy. This car came from the original owner who said that was the way the car came and had no idea why it sat up so high. This was in 73 and iirc, Ford had a big strike back then and management were building the cars. I do remember my sister wrecked her 65 Mudstain and it took a long time to fix it because they couldn't find new body parts. On the Chrysler side, I was told that cars built on the evening shift were the mom and pop cars and the high performance stuff was built on the day shift. Anyways, seems to be something on the assembly line got messed up and a bunch of small V8 cars got built with the heavy duty chassis....and in the mid 70's I ran across a 318 Coronet that was built like that.

Upside down steering wheels, the sorry excuse for wiring under the dash of most multi owner cars, and of course:

I'm guilty of some of that stuff!! lol Heck, I even hung an exhaust system using drum brake springs for the hangers. I got tired of breaking the stock junk and figured the springs would work and it did and lasted! :D

I have a good one done by yours truly. At 15 before I could drive, I figured out on my own that Volare discs would bolt on to my Coronet. Did this by use of a tape measure. I even sent out the calipers to be sand blasted and rebuilt them myself. Being the over confident 15 year old that I was, I was certain that I remembered which caliper went where. Long story shot for some reason I couldn't get a pedal. I bled and bled, nothing. I finally figured out that they must have been made wrong since the bleed screws were on the bottom. I could never have mixed sides, never even crossed my mind. I took each caliper off held it in my hand and bled them with the bleed screw on the top. Haha, I showed those calipers. It was a few years later that a now very good friend had it on a lift and said something like "wow, Volare discs, how well do they work? I told him great. You do know they are on backwards, right?" All I could do is stand there with my mouth open.

That's funny. I remember helping my dad bleed his brake in his '71 dodge van and we couldn't get pedal for the very same reason (bleeder on the bottom) although he did figure it out after a few minutes and switched them around.

For example....fan on backwards....flex plate on backwards. I've seen both. How bout Ford wheels on a Mopar? Yup...and the guy was running them on a daily driver! How bout a big block intake on backwards? Yup. Waaad have you sawed?

I've been guilty of the Flex[plate on backwards. Someone told me it would only go on one way.

You live, you learn.

You know until I saw this thread i did not know a bb manifold could be put on backwards. I learned something today! I had a 63 Galaxy w/390 and a 4 speed that had 3rd and 4th gears reversed on the shifter. The guy I got it from just wanted to get the tranny in so he could get to work. I left it that way because I got used to pulling into 3rd while cornering then slamming it forward into 4th.

DSC00002.JPG002.jpg330.JPG3-16-2012 062.JPGThis is a good place to post these pics I have been collecting!! Enjoy! Real cars seen in everyday situations. The last one is a picture of the big hunk of scrap vinyl top that was under the sill moulding of my car. They just ran the screws right through it. I left it that way. I don't have a pic of it but instead of recentering the loop for the trunk latch, they just bent it over. It's factory because the paint has never been touched.

Forgot this one. I had a guy bring me a 39 Ford with a flathead to diagnose a overheating situation. 1 thermostat was right side up , and the other was upside down. I guess they thought it flowed through both sides of the motor. In one , out the other..... This is a good one. My boss thinking he is the ultimate old car guy was putting a battery in a model a the other day and burned up a bunch of wires. I said, "you do know that a lot of old Fords are still positive ground, right?" And after judging the look on his face, I added," The red cable goes to the negative side". Still not believing me and after frying it a couple more times, guess what? That's right, he reversed the cables and bada bing, she ran. Another ford story. I saw a guy NAIL a hood scoop to a 62 Galaxy hood but like a pro, he clinched them over on the other side.......

In a garage you see it all. Street rod towed in with fresh engine that ran great, started screaming and they killed it. Oil pressure showed good when started then went to zero. Owner built the engine. Pulled it down and found a shop rag in the oil pick-up. Had a few too many beers while finishing up the engine and put the pan on right over the fresh crank assembly that had been covered with a rag.

This is even painful to read!!!!! I had to take the injection unit off a $100,000 restored fuelie 57 chevy because the owner had let it sit for too long and found a melted screwdriver left there by our assembly man. He topped that screwup off when he put a 61 fuelie vette completely together and didn't tighten ANYTHING on the chassis or interior! Sad part was I think he honestly was getting early stages of Alzheimers.
