Here we go. One last time...

Usually, yeah.
The way work has been recently (and all the other projects that can't wait anymore), it's been really tough to get out there, since I'm usually out of gas (or over at the outpatient again).
Today was no exception, for example.
I got out early on the tractor to mow, since we finally had a stretch of dry weather.
Got to try out my handiwork on the rebuilt finish mower and it worked great - up until I hooked a rut when working on the steep part, in a ditch next to my road.
Tractor promptly ejected me and tried to roll over sideways.
I had the presence of mind to give the wheel a good tug to the right on the way out, then hit the ground hard.
I was only worried about keeping that thing on all fours....
Next thing I know, the tractor has left, having not rolled over. It's heading towards the neighbors' ravine WAY down there, so I get up and chase it.
Slapped it out of gear, then nailed the brakes hard as I could with my hands.
Thankfully, got it stopped. Cussed it a little, too.
Again...
God has a sense of humor - and I amuse the heck outta Him. :)

After that, my wife tried to get me to stop.
Instead, I went in the garage. You know, headstrong and all that.
Did all this after the tractor escapade, with her in close proximity, watching over me. :)
When the women go on protection mode whatever the reason may be, you dont want to irritate them too much. Nice to see more progress.

Gotta be careful with tractors near ditches. I lost my uncle last summer when he rolled the tractor on top of himself into the ditch.
Motor is looking good! Won't be long till it fires up.
Very sorry to hear about your uncle. :-(
Thanks. Yeah, a couple more good sessions and I should be close.

She usually has excellent instincts on when it's wise to leave me be and when it's time to step in - so good, in fact, that I've grown to trust her judgement on when I need to stop more than my own.
She's very pragmatic. I'm....
well, I'm not so good at accepting limitations.

BTW, before anyone notices it, I've corrected my wiring on the coil.
Thankfully, I took pics of all the wiring before disassembly. :)

Ok folks, home stretch time here.
Time to pop in the spark plugs, wires and cap and fill up all the fluids.
While I get going here, what are your last-minute suggestions, reminders and helpful hints before I hit the key this evening?

Everything wired, hooked up, plumbed.
Antifreeze stuffed full of 3 gallons of mixed 50/50.
5 quarts of high dollar oil in:

Hastings filter.
I'm about to go fetch some fresh gas to mix with whatever is in the tank now.

Speak now with any advice, no matter how menial or obvious it may seem.

Just make sure you give your wife an invite. After all she has had to watch out for it would be the right thing to do.
Absolutely!
If anything else, the authorities will be needing a witness.
BTW, this oil IS green. Very odd.

A/F in the oil! Lol

Just a thought- get some gas in the float bowls instead of waiting for pump to fill 'em up?

Wife hovering with fire ext.? Ya never know.

I did give it some straight down the throat, but the Edelbrock doesn't have bowl vents like a Holley and I wasn't about to open the thing up, so...

Yes, there has been a little praying done today. :)

My first time using the vaunted Brad Penn stuff (so named after Bradford, PA as it turns out). This is the extree additive for old fart engine blend. Still kind of freaked me out when I started pouring. :)

Make sure the battery is charged well if you have electronic ignition.......................MO
Yessir, I put a trickle charger on it before I went to fetch gas and it showed fully charged (it's a beast of a battery - 1000 CCA). Voltmeter confirmed it, but I left the charger on it until I got back from town anyways.
Engine spun right over; the old Dakota rebuilt starter hanging tough. :)

LOL. I handed her a droplight and told her to watch closely.
When she asked "for what", I said EVERYTHING. :)

Like a hawk, man. You know it. :)
