I got a lifter problem...I think?

ok...i took the lifters back apart for a picture....Their is no springs in either lifter...And if you notice, the bores seem to be different between the 2 lifter...the internal sleeve on the loose lifter in question goes further down into the lifter body vs the other lifter...but as said already, neither one have a spring...only the little plunger and the retainer clip...:(

ok...i see now rustrat..:)

I guess these come even further apart...I will see if i cant get the rest of the internals out of the lifter...and tips on that..? :)

Yeah. Turn them upside down and tap them on your work bench. They'll come apart.

It looks like they might be just crudded up. If the spring ain't broke, I would soak them all in carburetor cleaner. Since it's a roller, it will not hurt a thing to mix them up.

I guess it would be safe to assume the cam is most likely still good, knowing the lifter is collapsed.

Can you see the lobe? I hope. Check the roller on the lifter. Make sure its round. No flat spots. If the lobe was wiped it would be obvious. Otherwise looks like you will be back in business right quick. Good deal. The little sludge engine that could!

thank you again rusty :)

maan....these things are stuck bad..I have pounded them on a piece of wood hard! the internal sleeve will come to the top base of the lifter, and thats it..I cannot remove them by sticking my finger inside the bore in a attempt to pull it out the rest of the way :(

I guess i'm gonna pull all of them out, and soak them all in some berrymans carb soak...:)

I would. ...and it won't hurt a thing to mix the internals up either. I know....some of yall can flame away, but it'll be fine. I know it's some effort when you could just buy new lifters and be done with it.....but I LIVE for makin old stuff work again.

funny pic

Ever have this happen to you?

I have to clean them, or replace the motor with a cheap used one..I cannot afford new rollers lifters lol, they are quite proud of them...

The only thing i'm keeping track of are the pushrods...the rest goes into the pot of cleaner...

on a side note, i finally got the 2 lifters broke down, boy were they stuck in there! I need to get more solvent before i remove the rest of them..

Cool. Then I take it the sprAngs are intact? If so, then they were just gunked up. Coolness. That's a cheap fix. When you get done, Put a can of sea foam or marvel mystery oil in the crankcase.

yeah, the springs were in good shape, just a little dirty :)

I'm not sure about the original one that was stuck, i tried to reinsert the guts back into it after the cleaning, but it's still a super tight fit, i may have to trash that one...:( Pretty sure the others will be fine...

I'm hoping someone here maybe has a spare they can sell me...

The hell you say. Get you some emery cloth and polish up the plunger and roll it up and polish up the bore. It'll be good as new.

:laughing6: great minds think alike! I was just out there with some 800 grit working on it...the guts slide in the barrel just fine now :)

Crap,...anyone know where i can buy a the c-clip type locking rings for the lifters...I lost one :(

Now that, I do not know. One from a standard hydraulic lifter may work if that helps.

thanks again rusty :)

I'm gonna go over the shop again with my flashlight, damn thing went flying across the shop table, and i aint seen it since :0/

I found it! :)

It was laying on top of my drill press...I cant believe i found it in that wreck of a shop lol :p
