Confiscate and crush it. That should send a loud and clear message.

I looked at that GTX. So strange the vin was removed.
It's also strange that they removed the fender tag. While it does contain vehicle information, it's not recognized as a VIN tag.

Has the matching numbers engine been authenticated?

High Octane Classic had the car? I thought they were "reputable".

Matching to what? This was a stay away from that one car for me.

So if Dave Wise doesnt like a VIN he can have LEOs remove it along with the fender tag?
And the seller has no say in the matter?

do they have a court order? some sort of warrant? cops are just allowed to deface someone's property?

I would think so. There must be probable cause that a crime was committed in order to confiscate personal property as evidence, known as civil forfeiture.

so confiscate the car, why pry the numbers off of it? makes no sense to me

The VIN and fender tag. Of course, the block could be re-stamped too. Obviously there’s some shady **** going on in the eyes of the law, I wouldn’t touch that car with a 10 foot pole…

Well, considering the terrific example you already own, that's kind of a moot point.

I wonder which door is correct?

The "early 69" 68 style door or the driver's door on a car that was hit hard on that side/front.
Wouldn't it have been relatively easy to relocate the lock knob?

New VIN might be AZ100012725336...

Or something like that.

This one may have been pulled from the docket? Not listed in the results. One thing I noted was that where the dash vin plate should have been was that it looked like it was just pulled off. There was unwiped dirt where the vin plate should have been. I wish I had photos.

Baby Blue (a '68) had a '69 door installed on the right side in the late 70s, after being sideswiped. I spotted it when I bought the car for $1800, and didn't care. Neither did any of the other owners who have had the car besides me. To me, the incorrect location was more than cancelled out by the pit free chrome on the vent window frame. I currently own an early build '69 GTX with the original doors, and they both have the forward position knobs that were introduced with the '69 model year. The car originally had the center mounted fender signal indicators found on early models, like the car in this thread. Mine had the original fenders replaced with NOS in 1981. Those have outboard mounted turn signal indicators, same as the April built unrestored '69 I owned in the 90s.
