one of my long time friends is a flat earther........

Agreed......it definitely ain't no Whopper.
That reminds me. You know why Ronald McDonald got fired?

He stuck his Big Mac in Wendy's Hot 'n' Juicy.

I'll be here all week, folks!

Ignorance is a learned skill that closes the open mind to understanding reality.
Instead of making fun of what you think is "true" because your programming is over ruling any form of logic left in the brain - look at the questions BOTH sides raise in the discussion.
Water is flat is it not?
Flat means level. Do planes fly level or follow the curvature of the earth?
Any pilots on here?
Do architects take into consideration the curvature of the earth when designing large items? Any architects on here?
Doing the curvature of the earth math reveals interesting phenomena...look it up instead of making fun of what you don't know or understand

and I just found out today

he's done all the research, has all the evidence, and will argue till he's blue in the face........

I didn't have time for the full lesson, but I do remember these tidbits......

Antarctica is a giant wall of ice that surrounds us, and no one is allowed there....

if anyone attempts to fly to Antartica, F16s will come out of nowhere and escort you away or shoot you down if necessary........

the global warming nuts are freaking out because if the ice wall melts, all the water will fall out.......

I told him I had to go, but we will continue this discussion at a later date :fool:
anyone that believes the earth is flat , is an idiot !

The earth is not flat nor is it round ....
it is an oblate spheroid as are most if not all the planets if I remember correctly.
The radius of the equatorial axis is greater than that of the polar axis.

Now you know!
Thanks Mr. Lomoscolo! (7th grade earth science)

Yes, they do take the earth's curvature into consideration if the building is long enough, which admittedly is rare. Look it up. If you want a shortcut, look up Linear Accelerators or the International Linear Collider.

Water is not flat, it follows the surface of the Earth. However, it can appear flat when looking at small sections of it.

The circumference of the Earth was first calculated by the Greek scientific writer and astronomer Eratosthenes, who died 194 BC.

I was pretty confident it was round 30 years ago, maybe a little egg shaped

So many people that have ventured into space have remarked on the Earth being a globe.....
I've never been out quite that far but I've also never fallen off the edge!

When I get out of the shower, the water clings to my ball sack all the way around. That's not a flat surface. :poke:

On an ocean voyage as an example - two yachts sail directly out from port, after about 25-30 miles, they both disappear form view.

And yet oddly enough, the crew on both yachts can still see each other, and notice no change in their position relative to the sky and water surface. No bumps or slides are experienced when they are lost from sight by the people on shore.

Spooky stuff.

When he fell off the edge of the Earth with his trusty tape measure.
