And yet oddly enough, the crew on both yachts can still see each other, and notice no change in their position relative to the sky and water surface. No bumps or slides are experienced when they are lost from sight by the people on shore.

How about the space shuttle, or satellites ? Are they in orbit, or do they just sit there in place ? And yes, if you do research, you'll know when constructing long-span bridges, the curvature of the earth is calculated into the design. Plaines flying level? I was thinking about that but hadn't posted yet. Trimming the elevator keeps the plane at a near constant altitude. (the elevator is the flaps on the tail section and control the plane's nose up and down) Say you are flying level at 1000 feet you will gain altitude the further you fly. You need to make adjustments to cause the plane to nose down to follow the curvature. I wish I could explain it better. I took a small commuter flight to Chicago once. If I remember, only one seat on each side of the center aisle. It was a small plane and the pilot kept the door open to the cockp[it so I could watch him fly it. Once we got to altitude he kept adjusting the controls and I bet it was to maintain altitude. You could feel the plane change pitch just a bit when he did.Ignorance is a learned skill that closes the open mind to understanding reality.

Indeed. The aircraft's movement forward is against the atmosphere. Without going into the physics or the equations, simplified it is what he stated. Gravity is the rope. Gravity is a constant. Just like satellites and the big, round ball of cheese in the night sky... the moon. They don't fly off into space due to... gravity.Nope.
Aircraft are in a sense tethered to earth, by gravity.
