What did you do today....other than work on your car!?

Painted the grill with a hammer finish paint, it was old, very old and didn't come out like it did years ago. The pieces you see are the end of the front fenders as they meet the hood just above the grill. The sanded 1/2" plywood is junk. It keeps on fuzzying up even after sanding and primer has been applied. Sand again, paint, and I still get a fuzzy finish. What do you want for 45 bucks.......

Maybe try a couple coats of clear enamel first on the edge. Sand very lightly and give it a try, won’t hurt anything.

I've worked with a lot of different woods, but you run your hands over this stuff, it gives off tiny splinters. After sanding and being sealed with primer, then lightly sanding to clean it up, you'd think that would be it. Hit it with color and it lifts again. Lightly sand again and second coat it, it lifts again. I'm done with this. I'm sure if it was painted with a brush it would probably coat it better and lord knows how many coats of spraying and sanding this junk would take to get it right. It's just wall art and not furniture, but I know better than this. Next time I'll go back to what I usually use, Maple. That comes out very nice. First and last time using this stuff, live and learn. The lumber at Home Depot blows.

I thought I'll hide the surface flaws with a hammered finish paint I had, it's one of about 20 cans of paint I have from different projects over the years. I threw away cans I tried yesterday that had to be 10 years old, that when needed, wouldn't work. Old is good, but not in paint.

I mowed the lawn again.

Man, been a LOT of years since crabbing but it was off the banks of Cape Cod Canal.....like 1962!

I've done some wood working over the years and well, some woods just don't like anything you do to it.

Been a VERY busy week so far....got word last Friday that my wife's son was getting out of jail early (drunk driving and had a crash and it was the 2nd offense) and had to be at the transfer jail by 8am on Monday. 4 hours later, he came out and was the first one to be let loose. Geeze. Sure was nice to get going before everyone else for a change no matter what the reason is lol. Everything that we had planned to do on Monday had to be canceled.

Dropped the mower deck out from my garden tractor last weekend to check the gearbox and install fresh grease. The old grease was 18 years old but things still looked good. Figured it would be back under the tractor by now but installed the new grease yesterday and got the gearbox buttoned back up and will grease the jack shafts before sticking it back in. The center shaft is a pita to get to when the deck is in but really easy once out. Did some hedge trimming today too so the deck will probably not go in until tomorrow hopefully.

Picked up a couple of generators a few weeks ago from a friend that can't drive anymore and took them and mine to be fixed....mostly carb work but one of his also needed a coil pack. Mine sucked in come crap and now has an inline fuel filter and so do the other two. Anyways, took my friend's gens to him yesterday and he treated my wife and I to a new small seafood restaurant that was pretty dang good and with decent prices. Excellent shrimp gumbo, fried oysters and catfish.

Today, the wife went to the dentist after we dropped off her truck for new tires. Ordered the tires 8 days ago and just now had a chance to get them installed. She drove the 96 Dakota for the first time to the dentist and while there, the shop texted me that her truck was ready so I drove the beater to go get it and the takeoff tires. Yup, they are going on my diesel pickup....finally getting rid of the '4405' tires for well used but still good '4321's lol. They will last me for years since I don't drive the diesel all that much these days but now when I do, I'm not going to be worried if the 19 year old tires are going to blow!

And her son is helping me finish cleaning up the back yard at her house which he and his sister is sharing for the time being. For the ones that don't know, her husband because a major hoarder and filled up the back yard and house with all kinds of stuff!! He is also doing some much needed work in and on the house. He seems to be a pretty good guy but just has/had a problem with driving while drinking. Hope he's out of that loop now....

I’m going to audition for a part in the community theater’s holiday presentation of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. I’m shooting for Sam the Snowman, Yukon, or Santa. Wish me luck!

Started on the hood of my 1971 truck art.

Started putting another guitar together today.
Still missing a few items, but I'll have it done and ready to play soon enough.

I went out to the farm earlier to fix a few electrical issues my brother was having with his kitchen lighting. Turned out to be nothing more than a bad toggle switch, and I also found a loose wire nut connection...easy stuff.
After that we took a ride on the Gator. Almond harvest is done so we checked out the wine grapes and did a general varmint patrol. No 'yotes but we did get buzzed by a huge barn owl...sneaky bastards! It's pretty cool though when a bird with a 4' wingspan flies a foot over your head without making a sound..

I was a commercial grape grower for about 25 years. Here is one pic of the last Chardonnay grapes I grew…

Spent the day up at the Hershey mid week as they have a large Flea market in the fall. Mostly really old car stuff, signage and antiques. Wife and I got 10 miles in. Saw Mike Wolfe and his brother Robby there last year. It's both sides of the highway. Saw a nice 70 Challenger rag top for $89,500…

Nice!
Ours are sirahs, but the majority of the farm is almonds. Pops wanted a 'side hustle'...so grapes it was!
For whatever reason he was never much into growing the tree fruits that are so common here.

I had almost 30 acres of vines here. It was pretty diversified. I grew Chambourcin, Vidal, Vignoles, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Barbera, Petite Verdot and Colobel that was strictly used for coloring in the reds.... We hand picked that and if you got open berries on your hands it was blood red and there for a week!!
