Not sure if its been stated already in this thread, but you could rent your house out in California and rent a place in Tennessee or Texas and try before you buy. That's what I would do in your situation. Good luck with whatever you decide.

June in this part of the world, we're typically low 80's for a high, around 60 for lows (it's 54 right now, for
example).
Humidity runs around 40-50% typically this time of year and is heavily dependent on elevation...the higher
you are, the less humidity.
We get some sort of precip about 25% of the days, usually an afternoon shower or t-storm.
Mornings have serious dew and up here in the ridges, we get morning fog that burns off around mid-morning.

By the way that green grass is probably Fescue, a cool season grass that will go somewhat dormant in the middle (July Aug) of summer if hot and especially dry. Then green back up in fall as it cools off.
Up in Ky there is also Bluegrass that is also cool season grass.

Nope - and this is a subject John (@khryslerkid ) and I have discussed before.
To me at least, I've never met anyone from PA I didn't like - and further, there are MANY similarities
between our fair states, what with substantial mining and farming histories, similar terrain, etc.
I reckon that makes you representatives of our northern hillbilly extended family.

Y'all are gonna have to give up on that whole "grits" thing....
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, that I know around here eats the damn things.
They offer 'em down at the Waffle House beside the interstate, but nobody's chowing down on them
over here in the real world.
I can live with most the rest of your statement, I suppose... and the BBQ is NC style naturally, with half the
guys I know having elaborate equipment for the production of same, some even competing in contests with
theirs.
Oh, and that would be yes MA'AM!
You can also fly the stars and bars, the American flag, whatever flag and people don't get butthurt about it
either way for the most part....can you guess why that is?
This part of TN was surprisingly neutral during "The War of Northern Aggression" - we had both Union and
Confederate HQ located in downtown buildings at one point or the other during the war.
Oddly, the northern HQ faced north, the southern one in a southerly direction - but they both were on the
"wrong" side of Main Street when they were here!
