Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

And you never stopped at a Waffle House, or at Nashville!??? Hey man, where ya from?? Conneticutt???:poke:

It was a whirlwind trip & Submit packed breakfast & lunch foods. I've eaten in the Waffle House before, so I know what I'm not missing. Ate dinner at Calhoun's on the river in Knoxville.

Hey Kern Dog
When we were talking about humidity this is it
The old saying is" man its real close out there"
Mid Atlantic summers

I have been casually considered a change. The Wife and I are often disgusted with the way that California politicians are taking us further and further to the LEFT. People on the right can vote all we want but we seem to be getting outnumbered more and more each election cycle. Add to that the increasing tax burdens we face, higher gas prices, increased traffic, etc...
The weather here is fantastic though. The scenery is great. We are close to mountains, close to lakes and rivers, close to the coast and San Francisco even though we rarely go.
For years, I have wondered why people in cold climates continue to stay there when there are so many places they could live where it is so much more comfortable. I have come to realize that FAMILY often tethers people to their home state. I understand that sometimes younger people will leave one state to take a job in another with the intention of maybe moving back "home someday".
That is not the case here. I have a couple of years before I can retire with a full pension. The Wife makes good money and can work from home anywhere with a good internet connection. Wherever we might move isn't something I'd see as temporary. I am not certain that we would leave. Right now we are just looking at options.
We are in agreement about what we want. We like green grass, rolling hills, lots of trees and maybe even water on the land either in the form of small streams or a pond.
The weather needs to be reasonably similar to Sacramento CA. No heavy snow, no high humidity and no 120 degree Summers. We would prefer property with at least 10 acres. The Wife looked at Zillow listings and found all sorts of properties in Tennessee that seem to meet the criteria. The state sales tax is actually higher there than in CA! What??? a 7% state tax with an average 2.45 local tax for a 9.45 % average! Here where I am it is 7.75%. The property taxes are lower though. I'd imagine gas prices are too.
I do recall members here that were once California residents that moved away. I have heard of several people that relocated to Idaho. What do you know about that state? I love the spirit of Texas but if it looks as flat and barren as most of Nevada or Arizona, I'll politely decline.
To those that did move, was it difficult to adjust? Did you have any regrets? I've lived here since I was 2 years old so this is not an easy thing to decide. The Wife left family in Arizona to move here. Moving again would not be as difficult for her.
You are learning very nice to see.

That is one thing that would suck....wide swings of temperatures.
WE get some variance, One day will be 95 and the next could be in the mid 80s but rarely does it swing 20 degrees in one 24 hour period.

So when are you moving and where?

Almost every day I think about how it will be when I'm gone from here.
I went to a Mopar car club meeting on Tuesday, the first we have had at our old meeting place since March of last year. The venue is in downtown Sacramento. Once I exited the freeway, I saw tents and bums all along the roads. It was NOT like this a year ago.
Jesus Christ, these losers used to confine themselves to the outskirts of town, maybe you'd see a few wandering around a train station. Now these scumbags are allowed to set up camp anywhere they want.
I see new restrictions placed on the hard working people in this state while the worthless parasites seem to be encouraged to continue being not only eyesores but also criminals with no repercussions for their actions. There are laws in place to eradicate the problem but the politicians do nothing effective to stop it.
I see what I have heard people talk about for years....The rich getting richer , the poor with their diseased hands jutted out for freebies and the middle class getting the bill for all of it. Hey, I don't begrudge anyone for gaining wealth. I don't envy them if they worked hard to get it. I do begrudge those that live by a "Two sets of rules" mentality.
I keep wondering at what point it will be when I have had enough and am ready to go. I despise homeless scumbags. I purposely moved further out from the city to get away from them creeping in. I live in a semi rural community. If I never left this area, I wouldn't see the blight that I mentioned but how soon until it creeps into my neighborhood?
We can afford to stay. I like the house and my shop out back but it would be great to have more room. It would be great to have the freedom to shoot my guns at will. I'd love to see gas under $2.00 too. I'd like to see what it is like to keep MORE of my income and not give up so much to a government that wastes it on programs that I don't support.

When do we push back? First it was T.V. Media, Higher Education, social media, schools, movies, now you have homeless (maybe BLM, illegal aliens, etc….) setting up camp in your neighborhood making you want to move. When and how do we stand our ground? I’m not going to read this and think it’s just Commiefornia. We are all next. We are in this together.

There's nothing left for a middle ground man with his own mind set in California anymore. I don't understand it anymore. It use to be all that years ago and now it's like it's not really part of the good old USA. I would sell before they creep any closer and screw with your property value.

If the wife could find a job around Weatherford Texas, I’d sell and pay cash for a new house there. I would leave the longest burnout from my driveway to Ca/Az border!

Me talking is easy. Those that have their whole lifes wrapped up in California, kids, jobs and extended families, I realize It's easier said than done. My family moving from one side of the world to the other is something that takes a bunch of courage. My mother told me years ago, had there been a road to walk back home on, she would have, times were tough. We only made it because it was always united family and family first.

It's such a shame California has turned to ****. When I travelled across the US coast to coast in '96 and '97 it was my favourite place for sure. It was always the place I aspired to live, the place from all the movies, beautiful scenery, beautiful people, a place where dreams were made. California dreamin', not so much anymore.

Sadly, the goal of those in charge is to make the whole country mirror California.

Don't believe me, just google 'make America California'

Only you will know, but unfortunately it will probably be when something happens that costs you money. The straw that breaks the camels back always has a price.

The whole country will follow Ca. and turn to chit unless the trend is stopped!

It takes balls to quit a good job and sell out and move half way across the country...I had balls in '79 when I was young and dumb and knew no better. But I never looked back or regretted the stress and strain of it all.

Kansas is littered with booby trap counties, some have great tax structures and others are simply insulting with what they bill.
