Storing tires. On their sidewalls or standing up on the treads.

This is about two tires only. Do you guys store tires sitting on their sidewalls on top of each other or side by side on the their treads?
I have them wrapped in black plastic bags in a temperature controlled and dry basement.

I prefer on the tread simply because laying flat on the sidewalls makes them difficult to air up when remounted when they are all smashed down.

I have been storing ours on the tread for over 50 years. Always inside storage, some have even sat for 5 years and still worked.
I have a pair of Firestone Premium 500’s that still have the shipping tag on them, that my father bought in 1965-69. Never had a GM to put them on. They would be good for a show car.

Without rims, lay the tires flat and stack them one atop the other, whitewall to whitewall. With rims, place them vertically next to one another. In both cases, rotate every once in awhile.

Yeah, I have mine wrapped in plastic and standing besides each other on the treads. They are spanking brand new with tubes and all. I just haven't had a chance or time to go racing. Thank you everyone.

I'm always wondering how best to "store" tires that are already installed on the car, concerned about flat-spotting them if the car sits for 75% of the year, or even many years. Is it better to jack the car up on stands if it's going to have mounted tires installed and not drive for extended periods?

I have always just stacked my extra wheels and tires in my basement storage room with a plastic garage bag wrapped around each one. Never any issues. I am always swapping them from one car to another when not stored.
