When I removed the gasket on my 65 it was set over a strip of white foam-I think closed cell. Maybe 1 1/2" wide, full length of horizontal flange. I believe it took the place of butyl caulk.

A idle solenoid should not retract until the ignition is shut off. If the engine is warmed up the choke fast idle cam should be fully released to allow the curb idle screw/solenoid to control the curb idle speed. Is all this occurring when the engine is fully warmed?

I always like to fabricate my own. I do not understand why so many folks are ignorant to the wiring (of cars or houses). It is not "rocket science" and many sources of educational materials are available to learn from.

The dashpot is a "shock absorber" for the throttle closing. It slows closing to prevent stalling and (I think for emissions). If you are referring to the idle solenoid, that is designed to increase idle rpm to carry the extra load of the A/C compressor.
